US slaps sanctions against Kudrin, 17 more Russians, companies

WASHINGTON, Jul 20 (PRIME) -- The U.S. has imposed sanctions against Russia’s former Finance Minister and former Director of the Audit Chamber Alexei Kudrin, as well as 17 more individuals and a number of Russian production facilities and companies, the Department of the Treasury said in a statement on Thursday.

“The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC)… and the Department of State take measures to… reduce Russia’s revenue from the metals and mining sector; undermine its future energy capabilities; degrade Russia’s access to the international financial system; and starve Russia of G7-produced technology needed for its technology, aerospace, and defense sectors,” the statement read.

The list covers firms that allegedly import dual-use technology from abroad including AK Systems, Altrabeta, Compel, and Komponenta, and entities based in the Kyrgyz Republic that have allegedly imported controlled electronics components and other technology to Russia including RM Design and Development, Basis Trade Prosoft, and Radiotekhsnab.

It also includes Aleksinsky Chemical, Kazan Gunpowder, Tambov Gunpowder, Tula Cartridge Works, NPO Kurganpribor, Astrophysika National Centre of Laser Systems and Complexes (Astrofizika) and other technological facilities.

Further restrictions are introduced against Locko Bank, Petersburg Social Commercial Bank, Commercial Bank Solidarnost, Tinkoff Bank, and Unistream Commercial Bank.

In the metals and mining industry, the sanctions cover Ural Mining and Metallurgical Company (UMMC), UMMC Nonferrous Metals Processing Limited Liability Company, and Uralelektromed company.

In the energy and chemical sectors, they cover Scientific Production Enterprise Research and Design Institute of Well Logging, Gazneftemash, Gazprom Avtomatizatsiya, Neftegazavtomatika, Perm Oil Machine Company and others.
